Chapter 01 · Core Essentials
Imported Apples in India
PR Agrifresh supplies imported apples in India year-round from Italy, Poland, New Zealand and South Africa, across ten commercial varieties. Apples are the backbone of an imported fruit programme — the one category that never has an off-season and the one buyers plan everything else around.

Chapter 02 · Character
How apples are available all year

No orchard produces for twelve months. Year-round supply comes from two things working together: hemispheres and storage. Italy and Poland harvest in autumn, the southern hemisphere harvests six months later — New Zealand and South Africa from around February — and controlled atmosphere storage bridges the gaps between them.

Apple varieties we handle
In a CA room, oxygen is reduced and carbon dioxide raised, which slows the fruit's respiration far beyond what cold alone achieves. It is why an apple picked in Italy in October still eats like fresh fruit the following June. Any supplier claiming year-round apples without CA capability behind them is either storing badly or filling gaps with whatever the market has left.

Pink Lady apples in India
Pink Lady is the most recognised imported apple brand in the country and the easiest premium line to sell, because consumers already know the name. The fruit is Cripps Pink, grown only by licensed producers and released under the brand only after it meets colour, firmness and sugar thresholds. That enforced specification is why it eats the same in March as it did in December, and why it holds a shelf price well above a generic imported carton.
Origins
Italian apples
Northern Italy, principally South Tyrol and Trentino, is one of the most technically advanced apple regions in the world, with extensive CA storage that lets the harvest ship across many months. Strong across Gala, Golden Delicious, Fuji, Granny Smith and Pink Lady.
Polish apples
Europe's largest apple producer by volume. Competitive pricing at scale, well suited to value and mid-tier retail programmes during the northern-hemisphere window.
New Zealand apples
Counter-season supply harvesting from February, under some of the strictest grading and phytosanitary regimes in world trade. New Zealand fruit typically carries a premium and earns it on consistency.
South African apples
The other half of the counter-season window, harvesting from around February in the Western Cape. South African fruit is strong across Royal Gala, Granny Smith, Fuji and Pink Lady, with a short sailing to India and a long-established export grading discipline — it works alongside New Zealand to keep the category supplied while the northern hemisphere is between harvests.
Imported apple price in India
Apple wholesale price in India moves with variety, origin, count size, grade, carton format and arrival week. Pink Lady prices differently from Golden Delicious. Polish fruit prices differently from New Zealand or South African. Fruit landing in week 8 prices differently from the same variety in week 30.
We quote against a specification rather than publishing a rate card that would be stale within a fortnight. Send variety, count, monthly volume and delivery city for current landed pricing and the arrival window it holds for.

Handling and cold chain
Apples travel at around 0 to 1°C. They are also strong ethylene producers, which makes segregation non-negotiable — apples stored or shipped alongside kiwifruit will ripen it prematurely and destroy it. Consignments are precooled at origin, moved under continuous temperature control and condition-checked before release.
Supply and pack formats
Supplied in original export cartons across standard count sizes to distributors, wholesale traders at Vashi APMC and Azadpur mandi, modern retail chains, HoReCa and institutional buyers. Branded and club-variety programmes are available where licensing permits.
Frequently asked questions
Which countries do imported apples in India come from?
PR Agrifresh imports from Italy, Poland, New Zealand and South Africa. Italy and Poland cover the northern-hemisphere window; New Zealand and South Africa supply counter-season from around February, which is what makes the category genuinely year-round.
Why are imported apples available all year?
Opposite-hemisphere harvests plus controlled atmosphere storage. CA lowers oxygen and raises carbon dioxide to slow respiration, letting an October harvest ship well into the following year.
What is the Pink Lady apple?
Cripps Pink fruit grown by licensed producers and sold under the Pink Lady brand only after meeting colour, firmness and sugar thresholds. It is the leading premium apple brand in India.
What is the wholesale price of imported apples in India?
It depends on variety, origin, count and arrival week. Send your specification and volume for a current landed quote.
Which imported apple variety is sweetest?
Fuji is the sweetest of the varieties we handle, with low acidity and dense flesh. Granny Smith is the sharpest. Pink Lady sits between, with high sugar balanced by high acid.
